Yes, I have never had any trouble understanding others' writing before--at least for reasons of language. I had simply assumed everyone was writing and speaking Galactic Basic.

Most in Edensphere are Human, although it seems from a variety of planets and cultures. Until today, however, Basic has been what I have seen and heard with very few exceptions.

Yes, I am able to understand the writing that still appears in Basic, although it appears I cannot write in that alphabet. I have attempted, but my hand simply writes in Aurebesh.
