Are these date "auctions" a common custom on many planets? I cannot think that a static holo and one sentence of description is any way to judge a potential romantic partner.

You cannot even see them moving. One might as well only be able to read their names.

They're not to be taken seriously, I'm guessing. At least I hope not. Honestly, the auction looks like a morale exercise to me, though morale didn't exactly seem low beforehand.

No, I mean that I don't think anyone's entering into this thinking that they're selecting a mate. It's a meet-and-greet game, framed like a dating service. Or so I'm assuming; Locket and Bridge certainly acted like it.

There was too much chasing during cops-and-robbers to do any talking - all right, I did meet Dyad, but that was the exception.

You can imagine them moving. Any way you want.

[Siiiigh Handmaiden. If you can't get this, how is he ever supposed to teach you sarcasm?]

They're not looking for eternal romantic partners here, Handmaiden, although I suppose that's not impossible. I can't say I like it, but I think it's more for fun than anything else.

[Yes, but he does!]

Sparring isn't everybody's idea of a good time. Which is fortunate for the poor sods down at Wellspring.

I do not know if it is custom or not. But it is interesting!

Agreed! And there is the chance of meeting new people! It is strange but I think that it will be fun.

It's not a marriage proposal, after all.

It's enough to count their arms and legs and figure out if they're male or female.
